Miss Hannah has this uncanny ability to win musical show-related contests. A few weeks ago, she entered a drawing for free tickets to see Chris Mills, Catfish Haven and Captain Yonder at the High Noon Saloon, and won them. At another show, crap, what was the band called, for some reason I'm blanking on the name, she and I entered a sort of crazy door prize drawing, and once again Hannah won. What the hell was that band called? I can't think of the name, because I just keep thinking "Tango & Cash." Never mind.
Oh, wait: Paul & Storm. Yeah. Funny guys. Hannah won a CD and a bottle of Jones cola, but one of those funky Thanksgiving flavors. That was also at the Café Montmartre.
I didn't write anything about the Chris Mills show because we left halfway through the opening act, Catfish Haven. We were too tired, plus Catfish Haven kind of sucked. Sorry Catfish Haven if you're reading this. Just not our cuppa joe I guess. But I think they would be the first to agree that they weren't exactly in top form that night. I mean, all out of time and the sound mix was crap. I don't really give a crap about missing Chris Mills, although he was probably really good, but I'm sorry we missed the second band, Captain Yonder, because they sounded really cool during their sound check, kind of like an American version of the Decemberists. (And yeah, I know the Decemberists are American -- but you know, they've got their whole British folk thing going, whereas Captain Yonder are doing sort of a similar pirate/sea-shanty/folk thing, but with more of a 19th century Mississippi flavor.) Sucks. Hope they come back to Madison sometime soon. Captain Yonder y'all. You heard it here first, maybe.
