Chinese Pufferfish "Mislabeled" as Monkfish = Two People Hospitalized
05/26/2007 04:19:18 AM

There was also a seriously scary NPR report yesterday about the huge quantities of adulterated food coming out of China. I for sure am not going to continue knowingly buying any food product with Chinese-produced ingredients. The problem of course being how to know what is from China, since the food chain can be so long for some things. Basically you can\'t with any certainty. Let\'s hear it for minimally regulated globalization! -----

Between this, the melamine thing, all the food-related stuff, the organ harvesting from executed prisoners, the child slavery, Tibet, etc. etc., China is shaping up to be one heck of a repulsive world citizen. Yikes. I would be outraged, if the United States weren't even worse in its own charming ways.

"Heroes" as Critique of War on Terror
05/30/2007 04:33:38 AM

"...[L]ike the Fox thriller \'24\', \'Heroes\' is a response to Sept. 11 and the rise of international terrorism. But while \'24\' skews to the right politically, \'Heroes\' seems like a left-wing response to those events. In fact, it functions as a thoughtful critique of Vice President Dick Cheney\'s doctrine on counterterrorism."

It's Easier For You To Drink Fiji Water Than It Is For Most People From Fiji
07/03/2007 06:49:20 AM

"...And in Fiji, a state-of-the-art factory spins out more than a million bottles a day of the hippest bottled water on the U.S. market today, while more than half the people in Fiji do not have safe, reliable drinking water. "Until he can accept that there is no point in anything about his life, he will always be disappointed beyond heartbreak."
